Did you know that horses taken to an abattoir ARE NOT scanned and freeze marks not checked?  Those presenting equines at abattoirs are paid up to £500  for each animal – If there are no scanners to check for microchips and no facilities to check the brands, then it is easy money!  Heartless thieves can steal a beloved member of the family for slaughter and enjoy the proceeds of crime unchecked, whilst those bereft search endlessly with little prospect of recovery as their friend has been slaughtered - destined for animal feed or human consumption on the continent.  Passports offer no protection – abattoirs are content to slaughter if your have “lost” your passport.

We are pressing for every market, port and abattoir to have the facilities to check incoming animals and return those unlawfully presented for slaughter. We must all pull together and change the law.
